The Anniversary of Dan’s Surgery: An Update
It’s pretty hard to believe that 12 months ago this week I went through the biggest surgery that I’ve ever had.
Life with a Stoma has definitely been for the better. Each day is 100% better than what it was like with my UC. Being able to exercise again has had a massive impact on my health and how I feel each day. Life with my family and my career is now all back to normal, just like it was before my UC diagnosis.
On Saturday 1st June, I joined the annual cycling event the Carten100 riding from Cardiff to Tenby a massive 107 miles raising money for Crohns & Colitis. This was an amazing experience and a huge achievement.
While taking part in such large events, I have to take spare bags and wipes etc. The Pelican Vitamin E bags lasted the whole day with no issues; in fact I’m finding as I train the stickiness on the base plate actually gets more secure. This gives me the assurance that I need during the activities.
My next event is my biggest challenge yet. On the 5th July I’m riding in the Wales Sportive as part of the Long Course Weekend in Tenby. This will be a bit scary as it’s the same route they ride in the Iron Man Wales events. So I will update you and let you know how it goes!
If there are any of you out there who are inspired by the events that I am participating in, we have a group on Facebook whose members are all people with Crohns or Colitis who face the challenges that the diseases face each day but also exercise to their full potential. If you would like to know more about this group please join us.
