Top 5 Clothing Hacks for Concealing Your Stoma Bag
Let’s talk about fashion.
I admit, ever since having my ileostomy 10 years ago, I always struggled to find ways to hide my bag and feel confident in what I’m wearing. I spent years buying and testing different clothes to try and find something that would be both comfortable and supportive. I know how frustrating it is to buy clothes and for it not to fit well or be comfortable enough around your stoma. It really got me down at the start but I think I’ve finally developed different hacks that disguise my stoma bag and I can’t wait to share some of them with you.
Hack 1- Bodysuits
Bodysuits are a one-piece wonder, offering support, flexibility, and tons of styling options. From professional to downright sexy, bodysuits are great to incorporate into your wardrobe and they are most definitely the staple of mine!
Bodysuits provide me and my bag with a sense of security when going about my day. Not only are they extremely comfortable, they are affordable and functional too!
Hack 2 – Belt loops
Adding a belt to your look can help dress it up, define your waist and take the ensemble to the next level. I always like to knot my belt on the opposite side of my bag to draw the attention away from any lumps and bumps caused by my bag. It’s a great little hack that can be used with jeans, shorts and dresses!
Hack 3- Smock tops
Cute, comfortable and effortless! Smock tops are amazing when it comes to hiding stoma bags! Not only are they fashionable and flattering, but they also help hide your stoma bag without feeling like you’re wearing an unflattering baggy top.
Hack 4- Mom shorts
Lately, I’ve been living in mom denim shorts. They are everything for summertime heat. However, it’s hard to find a solid pair that fit well and are comfortable.
Mom shorts are made from non-stretch denim, so when tight, they can feel restricting and uncomfortable. That’s why I always buy the next size up and wear a belt to help bring it all in.
Hack 5- Top Tuck
The front tuck or half tuck is probably the most popular and easy option when it comes to tucking in your shirt. The main reason you want to do this is to visually create a waist and to help conceal your stoma bag more. Front tucking your tops draws the eye up to your waist. To do this, simply grab the front middle of your top and tuck it fully in where there isn’t extra fabric on top. From there tuck a little on each side. The goal is to not have a super tight tuck but also not to have too much fabric out.
Try it for yourself and let me know how you get on!
