Going out over the Christmas Period
‘Tis the season to be jolly, falalalalalala!
Hoping that now has you singing the song. Going out over the festive period can involve immense planning, a strict rota and many outfit changes. Not to forget having to perhaps accommodate your stoma with outfit choices and keeping a spare stoma kit to hand for the just-in-case moments.
What are my tips for dressing with a stoma? How can you wear what you would like to without having to worry that the bag may show through your outfit?
The essential clothing items over Christmas
This post and advice are for the ladies
Finding the perfect outfit for your Christmas party can be daunting. You want to look fantastic, but you may also be worried about how the outfit sits due to the placement of your stoma.
My answer to that one is a stoma support belt, stoma knickers or plain old granny knickers as this helps tuck the stoma up and keeps the pouch flush against the body.
If you are not a fan of the above mentioned, then there are other options. I myself wear girl boxers as it tucks in the bag and doesn’t leave me with a VPL.
Tips to disguise your stoma under the clothing.
- Skater dresses – they cinch in just under the bust and don’t sit flush with the abdomen
- Wrap-around dresses – they are layered so are good at disguising the abdomen
- A-line skirts- these sit higher up the waist and with the added benefit of being able to wear tights which also tucks in the ostomy pouch
- Playsuits – These are underrated but oh so comfortable and paired with some killer heels they are brilliant and comfortable for a night out
Looking forward to your Christmas dinner but don’t want to be uncomfortable once the bloating starts? Top tips would be to wear loose fitted clothing such as:
- Tracksuit bottoms
Hoping you all have a fantastic Christmas!
