Sun, Sea and Stoma’s

Sun, Sea and Stoma’s ☀️🌊💩

Some of you may have noticed that I recently took a lovely break to Menorca! It is an absolutely beautiful island – I would highly recommend a trip!

Going away or on holiday with a stoma can be so daunting and overwhelming at times, especially trying to think of all the items you need to pack. I wanted to share my recent experience with you and share a couple of top tips on holiday fashion.

Write a list

Firstly, and my number one thing to do is write a list before you even start to pack. There are so many items we all individually need as ostomates on a daily basis let alone on holiday. I started my list my thinking of a normal day and then doubling it, plus adding a few more – this then equalled what I needed to take on holiday! I found being in and out of water or just generally with the warmer weather I did change my bag more frequently. Along with this, always pack your stoma supplies in your hand luggage! It’s not worth the risk of losing your supplies…

What to wear

So on to the holiday itself and what to wear? I can honestly say summer and holiday clothes are my absolute favourite! So here are my three go to holiday or summer styles….

Dress!

I find dresses so comfortable with my bag. I have purchased a few new but I’m mostly wearing the wardrobe I had before my surgery! My top tip which certainly makes me feel more comfortable is to add a belt or denim jacket over the top; it just gives that other focal point to your outfit.

High waist!

I adore all high waist items. Whether it’s shorts, a skirt or jeans, it just works! It means the item of clothing sits just above my bag, which is really comfortable but also fashionable too! My holiday I have just been on I lived in my denim high waisted shorts – SO comfortable.

Swim!

This holiday I was prepared with a real mix of Swimwear options! It’s always a hot topic with a stoma bag but that’s purely because everyone is so different in what they feel happy with. For me personally, I would mostly wear a bikini but there are so many options and this year I found some really flattering swimsuits too! You could always add a sarong for that extra bit of privacy.

Enjoy your summer holidays ☀️
