Preparing for emergency hospital admissions with your stoma

Preparing for emergency hospital admissions

Having been chronically ill for nigh on two decades, emergency hospital admissions have always been part of my routine. It is always via A&E.

My last admission

For those who follow my account , you will know that I’ve been rather unwell recently. I’ve been suffering with quite extreme pain, this is due to my inclusion cyst and a Crohn’s flare.

It got to the point of needing to go to hospital to be seen after several GP appointments and medical advice to seek hospital intervention.

I (as a safety net) always pack a hospital bag and stoma supplies to see my through as my hospital is very far from home.

What I pack

  • 3 pairs of pyjamas
  • A weeks worth of stoma supplies
  • My medication
  • My repeat paper prescription
  • A wash bag
  • Socks
  • Slippers
  • Electronics

I was admitted via A&E, and spent a week in hospital. I was finally sent home with new pain medication. I am unable to have emergency surgery due to my complex health issues.

I am due back into the consultants office in August to discuss how they are going to remove the cyst and get me back to being relatively pain free.

As always
