Reasons Why You Should Be Using Vitamin E This Summer

Summer has officially started and many of us will be jetting off on sun-filled holidays over the next couple of months. As we’re more vulnerable to sun exposure, it’s important to switch up your skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and to avoid the dreaded sunburn. That’s where vitamin E comes in; it’s known to be a fat-soluble antioxidant that is essential to maintain the health of your skin, often known as “the protector” as it fights harmful free radicals.

So why does this mean should we be using vitamin E in the summer?

Sunscreen

If you burn easily and need something to help keep the sunburns at bay, then vitamin E could be an option. When vitamin E is applied to the skin, it provides extra protection against acute UVB damage and protects against cell mutation caused by sun and pollution exposure. However, it should be noted that vitamin E does not have sunscreen action itself but works wonders if you need something extra.

In addition, vitamin E works great as an after sun to treat sunburns. Being an antioxidant, it will help fight free radicals caused by ultraviolet radiation, ultimately soothing sunburns.

Anti-Aging Effect

Increased time in the sun can have a damaging impact on your skin over time. Applying vitamin E will improve the elasticity and health of your skin by reversing the signs of ageing. As vitamin E is also an anti-inflammatory powerhouse, it will help prevent signs of ageing as inflammatory skin conditions is a leading factor of ageing skin.

Natural Lip Balm

While the winter weather is behind us, it doesn’t mean we can’t keep lip balm on hand. Vitamin E works as a moisturiser and can help treat chapped, dry lips. This DIY recipe is super easy and perfect for the summer. The ingredients you’ll need are:

  • 1/4 tsp of vitamin E
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 3 drops of lavender oil
  • 1 tsp of grated beeswax
  • 1/2 tsp of honey

Mix all the ingredients together and heat in a microwave until the mixtures have completely melted. Take the storage you plan to use – clear lip balm tubes, jars or even old recycled lip balm containers – and pour in the mixture. Let the lip balm harden for a few hours and you have a finished product!
